Ridgewood reservoir

client: dcap + NYC H2O
location: New York, NY

Ridgewood Reservoir was served as the primary source of fresh water for both Brooklyn and Queens from 1858 to 1898. In 1989 the basins were decommissioned, drained and abandoned. Only one of the three basins remains to have water, while the other two were taken over by nature and its habitat. NYC H2O have been conducting free tours for the community and schools to learn about the history of water supply in New York City. NYC H2O has a vision to transform the gatehouses, which were used to control the flow of water, into a resource center for people to learn more about water supply of the city.
